The Supreme Court of Justice (TSJM) confirms the 12-year prison sentence for Emilio "El Loco" for the Chapinería crime.

The High Court of Justice of Madrid (TSJM) has confirmed the 12-year prison sentence imposed on Emilio R., alias ' El Loco' , for the murder of his mother-in-law, whom he killed and dismembered in July 2020, burying her body a few meters from the house where they lived together in the Madrid town of Chapinería .
This is stated in a ruling, to which Ep had access, in which the judges confirmed the sentence imposed on the accused in December for murder, with the analogous mitigating circumstances of confession and undue delays.
Likewise, it confirms that he will also be subject to absolute disqualification for the duration of his sentence, payment of half of the court costs, and a five-year probationary period, to be served after the prison sentence imposed.
Emilio will serve a maximum of eight years in prison for these offenses, as the sentence must be reduced by the nearly four years he spent in pretrial detention, from August 8, 2020, to July 2024, the date on which his provisional release was granted. An appeal may be filed with the Superior Court of Justice of Madrid.
The trial court's ruling was also based on the jury's verdict, which acquitted Emilio's then-partner and the deceased's daughter, África , who sat in the dock at the request of the private prosecution. This prosecution represented the deceased's sister.
In his statement, the defendant admitted to the crime during the trial and expressed remorse. "I regret everything. I can't understand how I could have done that," he said, confirming the confession he made before the Civil Guard and the judge who investigated the case.
Emilio was arrested a few days after the events, on August 4, 2020, after human remains were found in a vacant lot near María Luisa's home in the Madrid town of Chapinería. "El Loco" confessed to the Civil Guard that he killed and dismembered his mother-in-law with an axe and a saw , burying her dismembered body in three plastic bags in a vacant lot.
The defendant faced an 18-year prison sentence at the prosecutor's request for murder, while the family requested a life sentence subject to review for both Emilio and África. The defense requested a complete exemption due to mental disorder with confinement in a psychiatric correctional facility.
During the investigation, the defendant stated that the 73-year-old victim's head " had been taken by vermin ." The crime occurred on the last weekend of 2020. The woman's lifeless body was found half-buried in a spot on the outskirts of Chapinería. The head has never been found.
